Durban: A Peoples’ Place

10 traders / 10 cameras / 10 narratives. When engaging in any social process ,whether it be developmental or artistic, it is fundamental to understand that participation is key. 9 Urban Biotopes Durban is engaging in a method which could enable a platform for a democratic participatory effort. 10 traders are each given a camera so that each can speak out (visually). While the aim of this initiative is to recognize, understand, and accentuate the knowledge embedded in the urban code of Durban, Armin and Doung [dala] are also focused in engaging in a collective creative process which bears the potential to redefine and expand the concept of public space to new categories.
